Leticia Gutierrez

U.S. Congress, TX-09

Leticia Gutierrez is running for Texas’s 9th Congressional District. A lifelong resident of the district for 45 years, Gutierrez is the daughter of farm laborers and a single mother of two. Her interest in public health advocacy began when her son developed asthma as a child, prompting her to advocate for children’s health and families’ access to care. She has spent 15 years advocating, organizing, and marching alongside her community, including working on immigrant rights and environmental justice. She has also served as a Government Relations and Community Outreach Director for an environmental justice organization focused on improving health outcomes for communities living near the Port of Houston and industrial facilities.

Leticia’s priorities include lowering the cost of everyday necessities, holding large corporations accountable for the subsidies they receive, and ensuring working families are not left to shoulder rising costs. She also wants to improve infrastructure, including aging pipes, power lines, and freeways, to help communities withstand disasters such as hurricanes and severe winter storms. Gutierrez supports comprehensive reproductive healthcare, including abortion access, and has called for greater investment in women’s health research and preventative care, particularly in underserved communities. She also emphasizes the need to address environmental health disparities affecting communities near industrial facilities and to ensure immigrant families can live safely and with dignity.
