Huntington Beach City Council
Erin Spivey
Erin Spivey, known as “Erin the Librarian,” is a lifelong Huntington Beach resident, educator, and former librarian who has spent her career serving her community. After earning her undergraduate degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara, her teaching credential from Cal State Long Beach, and her Master’s in Library and Information Science from Drexel University, she spent nearly a decade as a Library Media Specialist in the Fountain Valley School District before managing Huntington Beach Public Library’s downtown Main Street Branch. When the city council advanced policies restricting access to library materials, Spivey became a leading voice against censorship, organizing residents and serving as a plaintiff in a lawsuit that resulted in a court ruling protecting the city library from censorship. Her advocacy also helped mobilize the community to protect the public library system and prevent censorship.
Spivey is running for Huntington Beach City Council in California, where she hopes to restore public trust in local government, rebuild infrastructure, and reconnect the community. Drawing on her experience in public service and community organizing, she is committed to responsible budgeting, addressing the city’s more than $1 billion backlog, supporting local businesses, and strengthening public safety. She also aims to expand youth programming, protect senior services, restore the city’s Human Relations Committee, and ensure residents have a meaningful voice in local decisions. Erin Spivey is a strong advocate for women and young people, and supports accessible reproductive health information, improved menstrual product access in city buildings, and free community programs that ease the burden of childcare.
