South Carolina State House of Representatives, District 12 (SC HD-12)

Daniel Gibson is a Republican member of the South Carolina House of Representatives representing District 12, which includes McCormick and Greenwood. Gibson co-sponsored legislation to allow permitless handgun carry in South Carolina and legislation banning gender-transition procedures for minors. He also co-sponsored the Human Life Protection Act, a 2025 bill that would have prohibited all abortions in South Carolina except for medical emergencies. Gibson’s legislative record reflects positions that contrast with progressive priorities on reproductive rights, LGBTQ+ rights, and gun policy.

Gibson has been endorsed by Donald Trump. He received a perfect score from the Palmetto Family Council, a religious organization that advocates against gay marriage, against abortion under all circumstances, and for the influence of church on the government. Gibson’s score reflects his votes for six-week abortion ban, as well as his co-sponsorship and vote for a total ban on abortion. Gibson also voted against a bipartisan bill that would define hate crimes, creating stronger punishments for crimes motivated by race, religion, color, sex, age, national origin, or sexual orientation, and track those crimes. South Carolina is one of two states in the nation without a law on hate crimes. Gibson also voted to require schools to out children and for school vouchers.
