Jim O'Neill, a Republican, is running for re-election for Forsyth County District Attorney. O’Neill has spent much of the last decade running for higher office. He ran for North Carolina Attorney General in 2016, and lost, ran again in 2020, and lost, and for North Carolina Lieutenant Governor in 2024, and lost. He has been known to stack charges against defendants, in order to obtain life sentences and targeted the state’s Innocence Inquiry Commission.
